    What is Lean Body Mass Index?

    Lean body mass index, also called LMBI, measures the amount of tissues and other materials in your body that are not comprised of fat. Thus, your LMBI is a “fat free” measure of the other elements that make up your body. These elements include blood, organs, bones, skin, and muscles. To calculate your lean body mass index, the amount of fat in your body is first determined. Your percentage of body fat is multiplied by your total body weight, then this value is subtracted from your weight. The remainder is the weight in your body that does not come from fat. Measuring LMBI during weight loss will help to make sure you are losing fat, but not healthy muscle.
